1. 198 original drawings, c.1870-1914, of engines, flying machines, kites and wave propelled vessels. 2. Journals, 1865-1915, which cover his explorations in the Torres Strait and New Guinea, 1872-1876, his employment at Sydney Observatory, 1878-1883, and his aeronautical investigations and inventions. Thejournals contain: daily manuscript entries including diagrams and notes about trials conducted; letters received; copies of letters sent; press cuttings; photographs; and copies of his papers read before the Royal Society of New South Wales. Australian correspondents include Archibald Liversidge, Sir Henry Norman MacLaurin, James Arthur Pollock, Henry Chamberlain Russell, Norman Selfe, Sir Richard Threlfall, Charles Kerry, Sir Henry Barraclough, Sir Edmund Barton, Edward A. Petherick, Minnie F. Crommelin, Sir T.W. Edgeworth David and George Taylor. Overseas correspondents include Octave Chanute, Sir Hiram Maxim Stevens, Alexander Graham Bell, Wilbur Wright, Samuel Pierpoint Langley, George Crossland Taylor, Major B.F.S. Baden-Powell, Sir George Biddell Airy and James Means.
